Frequently asked questions

When do RMDs start?

At age 73 under current US rules, with the first distribution allowed as late as 1 April of the following year — though delaying stacks two RMDs into one tax year.

Do Roth accounts have RMDs?

Roth IRAs never have RMDs for the original owner, and Roth 401(k)s no longer do either. Inherited accounts follow separate rules.
