Quick answer
The fairest tip pool splits by weighted hours: each person's points = hours × role weight, and the pool is divided by total points.
The formula
Share = pool × (hours × weight) ÷ total points

Frequently asked questions
Can managers share in tips?
In most US jurisdictions no — managers and supervisors are barred from tip pools even when they serve tables. Check your local rules before setting a policy.
Hours or shifts?
Hours are fairer because a four-hour lunch and a ten-hour Saturday are not the same contribution. Weighting by role handles the rest.
